What's your plan for the 9-year gap?


Option 1: Extended Support Agreement

  • Negotiate with the vendor to commit to patches for 10+ years (or beyond device lifecycle)

  • Costs ~15-20% of original device cost per year, but worth it if the device is critical

  • Vendor provides documented commitment to response timeframes for security issues


Option 2: Network Isolation

  • Place the device on a separate network segment

  • Monitor for anomalous behavior

  • Accept some residual risk


Option 3: Planned Replacement

  • Budget for replacement during the next major refresh cycle

  • Procure replacement with extended support commitment
