What if your building told you the truth?

"Your preference is 21°C. Your neighbour's is 23°C. These are incompatible. Here's the rule we're using to resolve it. You'll have your preference 40% of the time; they'll have theirs 40% of the time. 20% we'll find a compromise. This is fair because everyone gets equal say."

Would you accept 40% of your preference if it was *fair*?

Most people say yes. Unfairness bothers people more than unmet preference.

That's the power of transparency.
