LinkedIn Post 14: The AI Governance Officer Role
If you're managing AI vendors, you need a governance owner.
Create an "AI Governance Officer" role:
Responsibilities:
Track all AI vendors and their systems
Maintain baseline performance metrics
Monitor vendor compliance with governance requirements
Schedule update review windows (AVCGA-CHANGE)
Manage audit schedules (AVCGA-AUDIT)
Investigate performance anomalies
Maintain vendor performance dashboard
Track contract amendments and compliance
This role doesn't require a full-time FTE. A facilities director can own it. An operations manager can manage it. A data analyst can automate dashboards.
But someone needs accountability.
Without a governance owner, AI vendor relationships drift. Updates happen without approval. Audits get skipped. Performance metrics go untracked. Vendors optimize for vendor interests, not yours.
A dedicated governance function changes behavior. Vendors know someone is watching. Updates require approval. Transparency is expected.
If you're running multiple AI vendors, establish this role.
The cost is minimal. The benefit is vendor accountability.
