LinkedIn Post 12: The Regulatory Horizon
The HSE (Health and Safety Executive) hasn't yet issued specific guidance on AI in pressure vessel inspection.
But they will.
How do I know? Because:
1. Organizations are using AI without governance
2. Incidents are accumulating
3. Regulators will eventually investigate those incidents
4. Regulators will find the governance gap
5. Regulators will issue enforcement notices requiring governance
6. Regulators will update guidance to prevent future incidents
This progression is predictable. It happens every time new technology enters safety-critical domains.
The organizations that will be ahead of the curve are those implementing governance now—before regulatory guidance is issued, before enforcement actions begin.
When the HSE does issue guidance (probably within 2-3 years), organizations with APMGA governance in place will be compliant immediately. Organizations scrambling to retrofit governance will face transition challenges.
APMGA is designed to be compatible with current PSSR requirements. When new HSE guidance comes, APMGA implementations will likely be recognized as best practice.
The question for your organization: Do you want to lead, or do you want to react?
Proactive governance is always cheaper than reactive compliance.
